Welcome to Eagles College, Established 2021

At the center of an Eagles education is intensive mentoring of students by the trainers. This mentoring begins the moment you walk into class. While staff members from all academic departments teach the tutorial and their topics vary widely, every tutorial emphasizes writing, critical thinking and analysis, oral discussion skills, and information literacy. Each tutor also serves as adviser to the tutorial students until they declare a specialised field of study. Thus, students receive guidance from an instructor with personal knowledge of their academic interests, aptitudes, and needs. In keeping with the mentoring approach, Eagles classes generally are small, with an average enrollment of 16 and fewer than 9 percent of classes above 30 students.

At all levels of the curriculum, Eagles College students receive an education rooted in active experience. For example, students in science classes engage in discovery-based learning, even at the introductory level. Each area of the fine arts offers opportunities for creative practice alongside the study of history, theory, and formal analysis.

Work hard, play hard. Simple!

The foundation underlying the success of our learners is FUN! We make every learning experience engaging and learning efforts are rewarded.

All over the world and all over the internet there are many “Eagles” colleges. However, there is only one Eagles Independent College in Zimbabwe. From humble beginnings to fierce competition, it's living proof that we are the real deal. All our students pass their GCSE/IGCSE and GCE/IGCE with flying colours, making a place for themselves in the world. The pride and discilpine we instill in our learners makes them highly adaptable and acceptable in the colleges and universities they attend and subsequently their careers.

Our school is a Cambridge International School, registered to offer education programmes from Cambridge Assessment International Education, part of the University of Cambridge. We are proud to be part of the world’s largest international community of schools, preparing students for life with Cambridge qualifications that are valued by universities and employers around the world.

The Cambridge Pathway gives students a clear path for educational success. We shape its curriculum around how our students learn – with a wide range of subjects and flexible ways to offer them. Our programmes inspire students [or your child] to love learning, helping them discover new abilities and a wider world.

Location

Eagles College has a discreet 1-acre campus of spectacular academic facilities, conveniently located in the quiet suburbs of Msasa North in Kwekwe where distractions are minimal and the premises are fully walled and gated with strict access control particularly during school times. Eagles Junior is temporarily housed in leased accomodation as construction of the Junior school is underway.

Small classes, including introductory courses, allow for spirited exchanges between and among staff and students. Courses do not simply rely on a textbook, but also make use of readings selected and arranged by the instructor, or materials and activities that draw upon the college libraries, laboratories, music studios, art galleries, computing resources, and field sites. In seminars, studio/art courses, and departmental colloquia, students present their own work for critical discussion and analysis. Independent study takes a variety of forms: guided readings, independent projects, mentored research, and course-linked practical projects that add world-reality to an existing course. High standards of quality are expected in all the forms of instruction, and all courses are taught by the Eagles College staff.

Ways of Learning

Students at Eagles College learn in varied ways, both inside and outside the classroom. They learn by doing, whether in athletic and artistic pursuits, through public presentation and performance, by conducting experiments, practical hacking or by writing for an audience. Eagles College gives staff members broad freedom to design courses and to develop appropriate methods of instruction. Staff members regularly experiment with new teaching methods, assignments, and classroom activities. As a result, students encounter a range of academic experiences suited to the subject matter, to different learning styles, and to their capabilities and interests. This is why blended learning has become our content delivery method of choice and in the near future we will commence content delivery using mixed reality.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

Computing is an integral part of the academic environment at Eagles College—a resource analogous to library resources. The College provides an exemplary computing environment in which all members of the college community can use computing to enhance educational activities. The College’s goals are for every student to attain familiarity with computing concepts, to use computers as tools to accomplish educational goals, and to develop an understanding of the impact that computers have on society.

Access for students and staff is provided through approximately 30 personal computers and workstations located in the computer lab, classrooms, offices, laboratories, and at off-campus locations. Distributed printing devices include laser and ink jet printers. All classrooms have high-speed network connections and wireless access. Linux workstations in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science provide an outstanding graphics and programming environment. These workstations are available for use by all Eagles students. A 5 GHz WAN backbone connects all academic buildings and provides a connection to the central systems at the server and to the Internet. All students regularly take advantage of the free and almost unlimited computer access during their years at Eagles. Also, nearly all staff members use computing extensively in teaching and research activities.

Curricula

Designed to motivate and challenge all students, the academic programs at Eagles College are driven by equity and the highest possible learning expectations for students. Focused primarily on the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) framework, our students are guaranteed an internationally accredited education and our proficiency-based learning and graduation policies ensure that all students leave as highly literate and skilled graduates. During their secondary school, high school, aftercare and tertiary careers, students have access to a wide range of learning experiences, including Advanced Placement courses and dual-enrollment opportunities at local colleges. In some cases, a year-long interdisciplinary capstone project culminates the secondary school experience. All students are required to demonstrate proficiency against consistently applied and assessed learning standards, which are documented using digital portfolios that students maintain as evidence of their learning progress and achievements both online and offline. All learning experiences are academically rigorous and intended to prepare students for success in college, career, and citizenship.

Grading

Students are graded on the 1-9 (primary level), A-U (ordinary level) and A-O (advanced level) grading systems. Many students find that the challenges of adapting to a new family, a rigorous school, and a sometimes a second language result in lower-than-usual grades at the beginning of the year. Averages normally return to previous levels by the end of the first trimester, however, and the median grade in most courses at the mid-year is a “B.” While teachers provide mid-term reports to students and families as a progress indicator, only term one, two and year-end grades are recorded on the transcript. We do not calculate GPAs nor do we rank our students. We encourage teamwork and competition within teams is not for prestige, but for collective achievement, the better performing students pull up the lesser performing students, effectively keeping performance standards at an all-time high.
